October 2021 Meeting of FMburgh

To accommodate some schedule changes, the October meeting of FMburgh, the Pittsburgh FileMaker Developer Group, was moved to the second Wednesday of the month. This meeting marked the ninth anniversary of FMburgh’s first meeting, and was held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 6:30 PM EDT.

With this meeting, we were able to resume in-person gatherings at Bakery Square in the University of Pittsburgh, Dept. of Rehabilitation Science and Technology Conference Room. The meeting was a hybrid with attendees joining both in-person at Bakery Square and remotely from the comfort of their own homes. At the close of the official presentation and discussion, those at Bakery Square were able to enjoy some Dairy Queen ice cream to help celebrate our ninth anniversary. (Unfortunately, the remote attendees were responsible for getting their own.)

For this ninth anniversary meeting, we were pleased to welcome Dave Ramsey to the virtual podium. Dave delivered a zero-to-sixty presentation on FMPerception and the forthcoming FMComparison from Proof+Geist. FMPerception is a fast, easy-to-use tool for FileMaker developers that accelerates your work, and allows you to make changes to large, complex systems with confidence that you know what will be affected. FMComparison (currently in beta) is a new tool that allows you to quickly and easily identify all the changes between two versions of your database. He discussed not just how to to use FMComparison, but when and why to use it.

As is our custom, we opened the floor to general FileMaker discussion following Dave’s excellent presentation.
