June 2021 Meeting of FMburgh

The June meeting of FMburgh, the Pittsburgh FileMaker Developer Group, was held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 7:00 PM EDT in an online-only format.

The agenda for the evening included a roundtable discussion centered around the topic Would You Rather…?

Having been inspired by the FileMaker Duel event hosted by Matt Navarre and the Portland Claris FileMaker Developers group at their May meeting, we spent our time discussing various development techniques and why we do things a certain way. “Would you rather use global fields or global variables?” and “Would you rather use a button or a button bar?” are a few of the questions we asked. As we covered each topic, some felt strongly one way or the other, but most answered “It depends.” Regardless, we had some fun as we discussed the pros and cons of each approach, and we learned something along way, too.

As is our custom, we also opened the floor for additional discussion before the meeting concluded.
