Collaborating with Others

Collaborating with people is a part of many projects, allowing the opportunity to share ideas and delegate tasks. This varies on different levels, depending on whether we are talking to managers, developers, or customers. There may be certain people we work with better than others, but when things work out, it’s an exciting moment for all involved. I find it interesting to see how other people interpret things, and their methods on how to solve a problem. As a participating collaborator, I at times find different ways to do something, and at other times, I provide an insight someone might not think of. In the end, the team collaboration helps make a quality product that satisfies everyone involved for the most part.

I’m lucky to have coworkers that I consult with on projects, each with their own experiences that they bring to the table. However, there are other places I discuss FileMaker whether it be in person or online. Some places worth mentioning are FileMaker conventions (like FileMaker DevCon), FileMaker forums (like FileMaker Community), and FileMaker user groups, such as the one I attend, FMBurgh. Everyone I meet seems so engaged in FileMaker that it’s nice to celebrate all of FileMaker’s functionalities with others who feel the same. Yet another way to connect with other developers and keep up on FileMaker is with social media, which people and companies have developed different uses and strategies to let their brand be known.

No matter what your favorite way is of connecting with others, it offers a chance for a great experience. For myself, when I want to understand something, I prefer to talk in person, but that capability is not always possible. That has not stopped me from communicating with other developers, including ones I don’t know. Reaching out, I am thankful for the responses I have received. Even if they do not have the final answer, my peers have paid attention to my question and let me know they are right there with me. This is the kind of community I want to be in, and I am grateful that I am.
